I seriously doubt it. They will deny the event and could use the ruse of amnesia, but that is highly unlikely. I have worked with several sexual abusers and their victims for more than 10 yrs, and I cannot remember a case where the abuser actually has had amnesia.
As for personality... they tend to have a controling, manipulative personalities, history of abuse (sexual, physical, mental) in their own childhood, with a long list of other types of dysfunctions.
and the psyche of a sexual abuser.... it varies from abuser to abuser.
I'm not a doctor. I'm sure it's possible, but frankly it seems more like a suspiciously convenient way to avoid jail. "I forget" is a very common defense, from Ronald Reagan and the Iran-Contra crime and Alberto Gonzales, et al.Can a sexual abuser develop amnesia of a sexual event as well as the one who has been abused?
I thnk they can. Maybe not true amnesia, they just lock it up in a compartment so they don't have to face what they have done. As far as their psyche or typical personality, who really knows? I think some of them are able to develop a persona that hides their true self from the rest of society their deviate behavior. How many times do you see neighbors of people who got caught saying in an interview "he's such a nice quiet man, I had no idea"?
Sexual abusers , and all criminals in general suffer from a malady known as "selective amnesia" ! They "forget" most , if not all things they`ve ever done wrong , especially when questioned by police , or in the courtroom .
It`s a mysterious "ailment" that seems to afflict ONLY criminals .
As regards the "psyche" and "personality" of sexual abusers , they are sociopaths ............. meaning they believe they`re the centre of the universe and everyone else on Earth is here only to cater to their sick, demented minds . hey also believe that human life is disposable at their whim .
How many of them have been caught , gone to prison , "treated" , released , then gone on to murder young children ?
Contrary to what psychiatrists may say , there`s no curing these vermin . Of course , it`s in their best financial interests to say they are curable .Can a sexual abuser develop amnesia of a sexual event as well as the one who has been abused?
Any abusive person has certain traits. They may have been abused themselves. They can't control other things in life. They are control freaks. They enjoy dominating others. They tend to believe (if it's sexual) that the victim enjoys what they are doing. (Possibly to ease their conscious) Unless they do it so much they can't keep track of it all, I doubt they forget. It's like winning a trophy to them. They may act shy or not. You can't just pick them out of a crowd. They are very deceptive. They can show red flags or hide them very well. They usually have a very low self esteem. They are in all different kinds of income levels. You can research this more on line or in books.
Obviously some will claim to forget to avoid punishment or whatever legal consequenses they are facing. But they may certainly also experience genuine amnesia. If they're messed up enough to be an abuser they may have multiple other mental problems, as well as may experience guilt causing them to deny what they did to the point they actually believe they never did it.
