For example not recognising your own parents and wife/husband and what school you went too but came across as a normal person?Is it possible to forget your whole past though amnesia?

I think that amnesia is not like clearing an old video, its more choppy, so you could remember all of this bits of that and nothing at all about this.. However being around or in a situation will evoke memory over time.Is it possible to forget your whole past though amnesia?
