What type of doctor would be specialized in treating amnesia?

I'd just like to know what type of doctor would be specialized in treating patients with amnesia. I'd also like to know how many years of seconday schooling they'd have to go through in order to get to that level.

Much thanks,

Lex- Normally, amnesia is evaluated and "treated" by a psychiatrist. After secondary school, there is 4 years of undergraduate college to obtain a baccalaureate (or bachelor's degree). Four more year of medical school follow for the doctorate (MD). Finally there are 3 years of resident training in psychiatry following by national board certification exams to be considered a board-certified specialist. It's a long haul, but a great career.
The person who treats it depends on the cause. If it is psychological, a psychiatrist

who has been through undergrad., Med. School, and poss. residency, treats it through

drug therapy, hypnotherapy, and counseling. This is usually to deal with the stress/trauma associated with another event that caused it.

If it is physical, a neurologist (who has been through undergrad., med school, and residency) will TRY to treat it . However, it is risky, due to the immense chance for injury to the brain.
